The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has officially announced that Djibouti City, Djibouti, will host the upcoming 74th Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers. Scheduled for September 15, 2026, the high-level gathering will assemble Ministers of Foreign Affairs alongside designated plenipotentiaries and representatives from across IGAD member states.
As one of the principal policy-making organs of the regional bloc, the Council plays an indispensable role in steering the strategic trajectory of the authority, maintaining diplomatic channels, and accelerating functional cooperation among member states. The decision to convene an extraordinary session underscores the urgent nature of the current socio-political landscape in the Horn of Africa, where diplomatic coordination remains vital to addressing complex, cross-border realities.
The agenda for the upcoming session centers heavily on the review of prevailing peace and security dynamics across the region.
