Ethiopia will host a concert by the Brotherhood Choir of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Solovetsky Stavropegial Monastery as part of the Russian Spiritual Culture Days in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
The concert is scheduled for September 27, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Assembly Hall of the Dejazmach Balcha Russian Red Cross Hospital in Addis Ababa.
The performance forms part of the International Project “Russian Seasons,” an initiative that presents Russian cultural and artistic programmes to audiences around the world. The Addis Ababa event will highlight the country’s religious and musical traditions through a performance by the choir of the historic Solovetsky monastery.
The Brotherhood Choir is expected to perform Orthodox spiritual compositions, including religious chants associated with the monastery and works reflecting the cultural heritage of the Solovetsky monastic tradition.
The event will take place on Meskel, one of Ethiopia’s major religious celebrations. Meskel commemorates the discovery of the True Cross and is observed by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church with religious services, processions and the lighting of the traditional demera bonfire.
The choir is also scheduled to participate in Meskel celebrations in Ethiopia before its Addis Ababa concert, adding a religious and cultural dimension to the Russian Spiritual Culture Days programme.
The event is being organised with the participation of Russian and Ethiopian cultural and institutional partners. Promotional materials for the programme feature the Russian Seasons initiative and several media and cultural organisations as information partners.
The presentation of the choir in Ethiopia is expected to provide an opportunity for audiences to experience Russian Orthodox choral music and learn more about the spiritual and cultural history of the Solovetsky Monastery.
Located in Russia’s Solovetsky Archipelago in the White Sea, the monastery is one of the country’s prominent religious and historical sites. Its musical traditions are closely connected to Orthodox worship and the cultural life of the monastic community.
