Aid groups sound alarm over severe abuses in South Sudan

By staff reporter

International aid organizations operating in South Sudan and United Nations experts have issued a joint statement announcing that the atrocities being committed against civilians in the country have reached an extremely deeply concerning level.

According to the statement released on April 3, 2026, millions of citizens have been unable to access basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical services due to the ongoing conflict. Aid agencies state that the daily humanitarian need is currently outpacing the available supply of aid, leading the country toward an irreversible and massive humanitarian catastrophe.

The organizations stated that parties involved in the conflict are violating international laws of war, warning that attacks specifically targeting civilians could be considered war crimes if verified. Nationwide, more than 7.5 million citizens are exposed to severe hunger, while over 2 million children face the risk of death due to malnutrition.

Additionally, intentional attacks on educational institutions, hospitals, and aid warehouses have further endangered the survival of the population.

To reverse this dire situation, aid organizations have called upon the international community to provide urgent financial support, ensure conditions are met for aid workers to reach victims without any obstacles, and hold those who have committed atrocities accountable The organizations emphasized that the loss of human life will increase significantly the longer the international community’s response is delayed.
