Lesotho congratulates Ethiopia on launch of Lafto International Standard Hospital

By HER staff reporter

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Ethiopia and its Permanent Mission to the African Union has congratulated the Ethiopian government and people on the launch of the Lafto International Standard Hospital, describing it as an important step in strengthening the country’s health system and expanding access to quality care.

The embassy said the new facility reflects Ethiopia’s growing leadership, innovation, and commitment to people-centred development in Africa. It said the hospital stands as a symbol of the country’s investment in public health and medical excellence.

Lesotho’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ntšiuoa Sekete, praised the launch as “a visionary investment in the health and well-being of its people.”

“The launch of the Lafto International Standard Hospital stands as a powerful demonstration of Ethiopia’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, advancing medical excellence, and investing in the dignity and well-being of its citizens,” she said. “Such milestones inspire confidence in Africa’s capacity to build resilient and modern health systems capable of responding to the needs of our populations.”

The embassy also recalled with appreciation a recent visit by King Letsie III of Lesotho, in his role as African Union Nutrition Champion, to Zewditu Memorial Hospital during the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa earlier this year. It said the visit offered useful lessons on Ethiopia’s approaches to healthcare delivery, maternal and child health, nutrition interventions, electronic medical systems, and integrated public health services.

Sekete said Lesotho values the opportunity to learn from Ethiopia’s progress in healthcare innovation and institutional development. She added that the two countries should expand cooperation in health, nutrition, medical training, and capacity-building for mutual benefit.
