The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan has enlisted The Williams Group (TWG), a prominent Washington-based government relations firm, to bolster its influence in U.S. policy circles and advance national interests on Capitol Hill.
Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) confirm the one-year agreement, signed January 6, 2025, and effective from January 1 through December 31, 2026. The Sudanese Embassy will pay TWG a monthly retainer of $60,000, totaling $720,000, to serve as a strategic bridge to American decision-makers.
TWG, led by President Michael Williams, will provide high-level counsel to help the Embassy navigate the U.S. political landscape, craft tactical plans for policy priorities, and offer direct support on legislative matters before Congress and federal agencies. The firm will also engage think tanks to shape public discourse on Sudan.
Sudanese Ambassador Mohamed Abdalla Idris is listed as the primary contact for the partnership, which emphasizes relationship-building with U.S. government entities. The contract includes standard FARA transparency requirements, a 30-day termination clause, and strict confidentiality for sensitive Sudanese information.
The move signals Sudan’s determination to amplify its voice in Washington amid efforts to stabilize diplomatic relations and align U.S. policies more closely with Khartoum’s interests. Active lobbying operations are slated to begin in February 2026, with visible advocacy expected throughout the year.
This formal registration underscores Sudan’s proactive approach to international engagement at a critical juncture for its global standing.
